Flamed bluestone pavers have a uniform texture that is achieved by heat treatment.  Their texture is grooved.
Natural Cleft bluestone pavers are not uniform in texture.  Their natural texture is kept by separation from their natural seam.
Honed bluestone pavers are super-thin in width, and ultra-smoothly finished.

About Bluestone Pavers

Bluestone is a natural stone. It is a blue-gray sandstone, consisting of a mixture of sand compound and quartz particles. Bluestone has been quarried in the USA since the early 1900’s, particularly in the regions of New York and Pennsylvania.

The word bluestone was originated from the building and trade industries to describe and refer to the popular stone. It does however have a technical term. Bluestone’s geological term is, ‘feldspathic sandstone’, meaning finely-grained arkosic sandstone.

Thermal Finish Bluestone Pavers

Bluestone is flame treated to create a pebbled uniform surface. Thermal treated bluestone pavers are ideal for walkways and patios, for the surface becomes non-slip and is therefore safe in high traffic areas.

Natural Cleft Bluestone Pavers

Natural cleft bluestone pavers have a non-uniform surface. This creates a more natural look, in regards to the color and texture of the bluestone. Natural cleft is a hard wearing stone and can stand up against the harshest weather.

Care and Maintenance

During the installation process, it is important to ensure that the bluestone pavers are not stained. Continuously spot-check the pavers and clean off any markings immediately. This is so after the installation is complete, it will be much easier to clean and seal your bluestone pavers.

Cleaning Organic Stains

For organic stains such as dirt, food or droppings, it is recommended you clean these with chlorine or bleach. Add 1 part chlorine to 10 parts water, and then clean your bluestone pavers.

Cleaning With Acid

For more stubborn types of stains, your bluestone pavers should be cleaned with acid, by a trained professional only! Cleaning with acid can be quite harmful to yourself and your surroundings, if you are not sure of what to do.

Sealing

Before sealing your bluestone pavers, ensure that the surface is completely clean and free of debris and stains. Once you have sealed your pavers it will be too late to remove markings.

There are many varieties of sealers available. Be sure to get the right solution, one that is suitable for ‘cementitious’ pavers. Sealing will help make cleaning and removing stains from your bluestone pavers, so much easier!
