CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF TRAVERTINE

Travertine is a naturally porous stone with varying density. Predisposed to harsh acids and chemicals, it can easily stain. This drawback makes it a weaker option for kitchen countertops and bathrooms. But, if you are keen on using travertine in such areas, there are few tips to avoid stains and damage.

  1. Use protective sealer: The best way to prevent stains is to treat the travertine surface with a protective sealer. It is great to repel spills to sink in the surface and allows you to get considerable time to wipe off the spill.
  2. Non-treated dust mopping: Sand, grit and dust can do the maximum damage to the travertine applications. To minimize this abrasiveness, the interior travertine floors can be cleaned frequently with a non-treated dry dust mop.
  3. Do not use worn vacuum cleaners: This is recommended as the plastic or metal attachments can damage or scratch the travertine surface.
  4. Revitalise : Always use cleaner, protectors and revitalisers which are gentle, have pH-neutral formula and don’t damage the original protective seal.
